def: An ultramarathon (also called ultra distance) is any sporting event involving running longer than the traditional marathon length of 42.195kilometres (26.2188mi). There are two general types of ultramarathon events: those that cover a specified distance, and events that take place during specified time (with the winner covering the most distance in that time). -wikipedia
The course for the Rhode Island 6 Hour Ultramarathon and Relay is a fast, rolling 2.7 mile loop through scenic wooded sections of Warwick City Park in Warwick, RI. The course is accurately measured by USATF certifier Ray Nelson. A fully stocked aid station will be available along the loop.
If you're not up to running the ultra-distance alone, you can gather up your friends, family, co-workers or teammates and form a team to compete against other teams in a relay race. The team with the most accumulated miles wins.
After finishing a long day of running, nothing's better than kicking back, relaxing and celebrating a your friends. We couldn't agree more, so Track 84 and Newport Storm have teamed up to present the Post-Race Party. Join us after the awards ceremony for great food, beer specials and a raffle.

Rhode Island 6 Hour Ultra & Relay

USATF Sanctioned

The Rhode Island 6 Hour Ultramarathon and Relay is currently Rhode Island's only Ultra. This event is a 6 hour timed event, plain and simple the individual and team that complete the most miles within 6 Hours win the event.

The course is a fast, slightly rolling loop in Warwick RI's City Park. The course is wooded and scenic with parts over looking Narragansett Bay. The race will consist of an individual and team relay event.

Teams may consist of 2 to 6 runners, but only one runner will be allowed on the course at a time. Awards will go to the first three male, female and teams in the event.

What is the Ultra?

The Ultramarathon is a long distance race consisting of distances greater than the traditional 26.2 miles of the marathon. While common distances of 50km or 50 miles are most often found, other events like this one, are timed duration events.

Why the Rhode Island 6 Hour?

Rhode Island has a rich tradition of road running, and the weather in mid-November makes for ideal running conditions. While there can be warmer or cooler days, temperatures in November are usually in the 40's. The course is a closed loop on wooded bike paths free of car traffic with easy consistent access to aid stations.
